Boney Kapoor lands in legal trouble as a vendor who supplied equipment for Ajay Devgn's Maidaan has alleged the filmmaker of nonpayment of dues
Boney Kapoor, the filmmaker behind the upcoming movie Maidaan, finds himself embroiled in a legal dispute as a vendor alleges non-payment of bills amounting to a staggering Rs 1 crore for equipment supplied during the film's production. Starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role, the controversy has been brought to light by Meherafrin Investments Private Limited, jointly naming Kapoor and the co-producers of Maidaan. Despite repeated attempts to settle the outstanding dues dating back to December 2020, the vendor claims that Kapoor has been evading payment. Frustrated by the lack of response, the vendor resorted to legal action, issuing a notice to seek clarity on the pending payments. In response, Kapoor clarified that the actual sum owed is Rs 63 lakh and assured that all outstanding dues would be settled before the Eid release of Maidaan. Defending his stance, Kapoor attributed the delay to COVID-19 pandemic-related challenges and dismissed the accusations as a coercive tactic. He stated, "Even after being reassured we were left in the dark. Having no route left we took the legal recourse and issued a legal notice with the intention that we would get some clarification on our dues. To our surprise, there was no response to our legal notice."
Maidaan is a long-awaited project chronicling the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, faced numerous setbacks, including pandemic-related disruptions. Alongside Ajay Devgn, the film features Priyamani, Keerthy Suresh, Gajraj Rao, and other notable actors in pivotal roles.
